Creating On Page Optimization in SEO

On page optimization is where we focus on a short list of factors within the basic HTML code of a page with a special eye toward search engines and rankings. On page optimization in SEO is actually quite a bit easier now than it was back when the Internet was young. The list of on-page factors required today is considerably shorter and easier than it used to be.

Ideally, you want to focus each page on exactly one important SEO keyword, particularly in the early stages of building a web site.

Your keyword should appear once in the page's title. This is what gets used as the clickable link by the search engines in the "snippets" that appear in their results. The entire title should contain no more than 69 characters. As a rule of thumb, keep it to under 10 words total when doing optimization.

Your keyword should appear once in the page's hidden meta description tag. This tag often (but not always) appears as the text description under the clickable title in the search result "snippets". Meta description tags in SEO should be at least 50 characters long and ideally should be 100-150 characters in length. Excessively long meta descriptions should be avoided.

You should use your keyword at least once in the page's text. However, this is not something one should overdo. A lot of SEO experts try to cram their keyword into the text multiple times, placing extra emphasis on what is called keyword density. Actually, keyword density is not very important at all, except in the sense that it's better to under do it rather than over do it. As long as you use the keyword at least once in plain text, your optimization will succeed.

Avoid keyword stuffing. This comes directly from Google's own SEO-based introductory guide to search engine optimization.
