Write Web Site Text

When it comes to writing the text for your web site, we recommend the following approach.

Overview

First, don't think small. Think big, as in a big web site with ever-growing content. Start with your most important keywords. We do this by using Google Adwords to do some lookups regarding keywords related to your business. As we build out the site, these keywords become the basis for the pages we write, emphasizing one keyword per page. The articles containing those keywords that are most closely related are interlinked, giving these pages that maximum amount of passable PageRank score.

Our Approach

Many customers prefer to create or supply their own content (text, photos, graphics, videos, etc.) for the site, and we are happy to accommodate that wish. We also point out that any content we create or acquire on your behalf for use in the site will incur additional charges.

Text creation is the time to take keyword emphasis into account. While there will certainly be a need for pages on the site that do not emphasize preferred keywords, we recommend that a keyword list be developed initially, before text writing proceeds. Then we suggest using this list to guide the organization and creation of text, including dividing topics and subtopics into separate pages that are centric to one keyword each.

Some customers find that the task of writing the text of the web site can be more time-consuming and onerous than they originally anticipated. If that's the case, we will gladly arrange to interview you or your people by phone or Skype call to talk about the particular content to appear on each page. We make recordings of these conversations and use the recordings to compose appropriate text for each of the pages. For the initial pages of the project, this typically adds between a half hour and an hour per page for the interviewing and writing work. As with all our work, we quote and bill this work and quote it on a case-by-case basis by evaluating the specific number of pages to be written and getting a sense of the amount of text content needed for each page.
